Out of the three boys, only one would make it to the final round of the day. That boy was Haris Rauf, a young talent who had never played with a cricket ball(hard leather ball) before. His success would go on to rewrite the narrative of picking a player from the streets and turning them into a superstar.
A Glimpse into Haris’s Life
Haris Rauf, the eldest of seven siblings in a modest family, grew up in the shadow of economic hardship.After completing his school he used to sell snacks to cover expenses. His father, a welder, struggled to provide food for the family, let alone luxuries. Education was considered the only way out of their challenging circumstances.His family was unable to bear dues of his university so he played tapeball cricket in Pakistan to cover up his expenses and provide for his family.
The Rise of Tape Ball Cricket
In the streets of Pakistan, tape ball cricket emerged as a popular and accessible form of the sport. This version, played with a tennis ball wrapped tightly in electrical tape, became a breeding ground for future fast bowlers. The likes of Wasim Akram and Shoaib Akhtar honed their skills in tape ball cricket, and it continued to be a significant part of the cricket culture.
Haris’s Passion for Cricket
Haris Rauf excelled in tape ball cricket, but he dreamed of going further. A friend convinced him to try hardball cricket trials, which were held not far from his hometown. It was the first step in a long and arduous journey. Adapting to the bigger, heavier, and harder leather ball was a challenge, but Haris was undeterred.
The Turning Point
The turning point came when he joined a player development program launched by the PSL team Lahore Qalandars. This program provided him with the guidance and training he needed. A strict fitness regime and tailored diet were crucial in shaping him into a professional cricketer.
Haris Rauf Lands in Australia
Haris travelled to Australia, where he played for the Hawkesbury Cricket Club in New South Wales. This experience with competitive cricket was priceless. He returned to Pakistan as a different player, having gained knowledge and talents in the Australian cricketing atmosphere.
Making His Mark with Lahore Qalandars
Haris Rauf was selected as a net bowler for the Lahore Qalandars in 2018, and he made an immediate impression. His steady bowling speed of more than 150 km/h and pinpoint accuracy drew the attention of the team’s management. He was named Man of the Match in only his fourth T20 game, which astounded everyone.
The Aggressive Dynamo
His ferocity, energy, and focus on the field distinguish him. He continued to learn from the best, including his idol Dale Steyn, whom he finally replaced in a Big Bash League match, resulting in a contract with the Melbourne Stars.
Haris’s International Debut
Haris’s success in foreign leagues made him a rising star, but his heart was always with Pakistan. He made his debut for the national side against Bangladesh in 2020 and quickly became a key player known for his consistency, especially in the death overs.

On Thursday, July 6,2023 Pakistan’s renowned fast bowler Haris Rauf married Muzna Masood Malik in a magnificent ceremony in Islamabad. The couple previously exchanged vows in a Nikah ceremony last December.
